Never Too Old

Even if you've never stepped on a skateboard, I suggest giving this short video a watch. It tells the story of Kinoshita-san, a man who began skateboarding at the age of 80.

I came across this video via Chopper's Instagram. Chopper is a member of the infamous Osaka Daggers skate crew. He also runs a screen-printing shop in Osaka's Amerikamura (America Village) district.

The video was filmed at Fukakita Ryokuchi Park in Daito, Osaka. I've skated there a few times, as it's one of the very few public and free skateparks in the area. It's a simple park, providing large blue 'waves' to get your surf-skate on.

Osaka has been grossly underserving the growing skateboarding population. But with the recent success Japanese skaters had at the Olympics, the boom is on, and new parks are being planned all over Kansai.
